Let BLUE MARINE DIVING
take you through the experience of a lifetime, and guide you along Kenya's fantastic
coral reefs of the blue Indian Ocean. Whether you are a qualified diver or ready
to start a new adventure, our PADI Resort Facility is the right choice for
you!
Diving
Single and double dive trips aswell as Discover Scuba Diving to the Mombasa
marine park are available on a daily basis.
Nearly all our dive sites are reached by boat within 25 Minutes, so no long, dreary
boat journeys! The dive departure times are planned in accordance with the tides,
enabling us to dive during different times of day and not scheduled daily early
morning departures. This gives the keen underwater photographer options for best
light conditions. A weekly departure schedule is available at the divecenter.
Marine conservation
Protected marine reserves in Kenya care for an unspoiled reef where fishing of any
sort is forbidden and tropical fish life is plentiful and can be observed at your
leisure.
East Africa boasts the second longest barrier reef in the world, stretching from
the coast of Somalia along Kenya to southern Tanzania. It provides a food source
and shelter to a vast array of marine life including the majestic whale shark
and manta ray.
Kenya embraces marine conservation and Serena Beach Hotel has set up protected hatching
sites for sea turtle eggs, where guests can participate in helping a baby turtle
into the sea. Sadly, sea turtles are on the endangered species list.
For the recreational diving industry, environmental friendly moorings have been
installed to avoid damage to corals by anchors.
Blue Marine Diving is a member of the Kenya Association of Dive Operators
(KADO) and The Africa Conservation Trust.
Whale Sharks
The Kenyan coast is among the worlds best locations for whale shark encounters.
These gentle giants roam the worlds sub-tropical oceans in search of plankton rich
waters. They can reach lengths of up to 12 meters and weigh 6 tons. A good time
for sightings in Kenya are the months of Sept/Oct and Jan /Feb. Easily spotted by
boat, our captains slowly approach the whale shark and then stop the boat nearby.
Under the watchful eye of our staff, the divers may enter the water with mask and
fins and fullfill every diver's dream, of swimming with the largest fish in the
ocean in its natural habitat. We do not, however, promote any physical contact with
the sharks.
Blue Marine Diving actively supports the East African Whale Shark Trust (see
link) who are committed to whale shark research and conservation. Whale sharks are
fitted with satellite receiver tags for research purposes in an annual tagging exercise
along the Kenyan coast.
Watersports
Blue Marine Diving also incorporates a fully stocked Watersports center, including
modern windsurfing rigs from Hifly, with beginner, intermediate and professional
boards, a 17FT LION Catamaran,2 Hobiecats(14 and 16FT),a Laser and 4 Kayacks.
The larger catamarans are hired out only with a helmsman.
Windsurfing and sailing courses are available on a daily basis. Kitesurfing is not
available here, but interested individuals can be referred to a Kitesurfing Center
nearby.
Use of the Watersports equipment is free of charge for guests of the Mombasa
Serena Beach Hotel.
